How to update Wyze Cam firmware manually

Prepare for Manual Firmware Update

• Ensure you have a microSD card with enough free space. Any 32GB or larger card should be sufficient.

 

• Format the microSD card to FAT32. This ensures compatibility with the Wyze Cam.

 

• Download the appropriate firmware for your Wyze Cam model from the official Wyze website. Save the firmware file onto your computer for further steps.

Rename the Firmware File

• Locate the downloaded firmware file on your computer. It will typically be in a compressed format or a ZIP file.

 

• Extract the contents if the file is zipped. The file you are interested in usually has a name like "demo.bin."

 

• Rename the extracted firmware file to "demo.bin" if it is not already named so.

Transfer Firmware to microSD Card

• Insert the formatted microSD card into your computer's card reader.

 

• Copy the "demo.bin" file to the root directory of the microSD card. Ensure it is not placed inside any folders.

 

• Safely eject the microSD card from the computer once the file transfer is complete.

Install Firmware on Wyze Cam

• Turn off the Wyze Cam and unplug it from its power source.

 

• Insert the microSD card loaded with the firmware directly into the microSD card slot on the Wyze Cam.

 

• Press and hold the setup button on the camera. While holding the button, plug the camera back into the power source.

 

• Continue holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds or until the camera’s LED light changes. This indicates the camera is entering firmware flashing mode.

 

• Release the setup button. The LED will flash blue and orange, indicating it’s updating. This process can take several minutes.

Finalize the Update

• Once the LED light becomes solid blue, the firmware update is complete, and the camera will boot up normally.

 

• Remove the microSD card from the camera and verify the update by checking the firmware version in the Wyze app settings.

 

• Reformat the microSD card before using it again for recording purposes.
