Set Up Apple HomePod Multi-user Access
- Ensure all users who wish to use multi-user access are part of your Apple Home. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad, tap the house icon, and look for the 'Home Settings'. Add each person under 'People'.
- Make sure every user has an Apple ID and is using the same iCloud for all Apple devices used with HomePod.
- Ensure all users have iOS/iPadOS 13.2 or later on their devices. This version or later is required for multi-user functionality. Update via Settings > General > Software Update if necessary.
Enable Personal Requests for Each User
- On each user’s iPhone or iPad, open the Home app and tap their profile icon. If it's their first time, they might need to set up "Hey Siri" on their device first.
- Toggle on Personal Requests. This lets Siri recognize each user's voice and perform tasks specific to them like sending messages or accessing reminders.
Teach Siri to Recognize Each Voice
- Once added, each user should individually say "Hey Siri, who am I?" to allow Siri to begin recognizing their voice over subsequent interactions.
- If Siri still doesn't recognize a voice, go to Settings > Siri & Search > Language on each person's device and make sure it's set to the same language across all devices.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- If Siri mistakes a user's voice, they can retrain it by going to Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice and switching voices, then switching back. This won't directly retrain the "Hey Siri" data but often helps reset recognition problems.
- If the HomePod fails to add users or recognize them, restart HomePod. To do this, unplug it, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Ensure HomePod is placed in an acoustically friendly area, away from too much background noise to improve voice detection.
- Double-check each user’s individual settings such as phones being on the same Wi-Fi network and each user being recognized in the Home App.
Important Considerations
- Remember, each user must have their individual Apple Music or other subscriptions; this does not include sharing media licenses.
- Ensure Family Sharing is set up if you're intending to share some services across users for convenience, though not necessary for multi-user recognition itself.
