How we compared them

  • Omi: what we see from daily use by our own team, and from our post-purchase survey of Omi buyers (November 2026).
  • Other devices: each brand's published specs, prices and plans, checked November 3, 2026, plus independent hands-on reviews, linked at the bottom of each page. We haven't run our own lab tests on competitor devices, and we don't pretend to.
  • What we compare: price and year-one cost, how you wear it, how recording starts, battery, what you get after a conversation, AI and app connections, and privacy.

Design and wear

Omi is a pebble about the width of a fingertip in a frosted white case. It hangs on a wheat chain, or pops into the wrist band; both come in the box. Bee is worn on a silicone wristband or clipped to clothing.

Winner: Tie

How recording starts

Both capture without pressing record. Bee listens while it's switched on and can turn itself off after silence.

Winner: Tie

Battery

Bee lasts about 7 days. Omi lasts 10 to 14 hours.

Winner: Bee

AI and app connections

Omi connects to ChatGPT and Claude on every plan, so the assistant you already use knows what was said. Tasks go to Apple Reminders, Google Tasks, Todoist, ClickUp, Asana, Trello or Monday, and Google Calendar and Gmail sync on every plan. Bee Pro adds Alexa+ and Amazon.com connections and a desktop app.

Winner: Omi for work, Bee for Alexa homes

Privacy and ownership

Omi is SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and is open source, so anyone can check how it handles your data. Technical users can run it on their own servers. Bee is owned by Amazon. Reviewers noted it asks for location, photos, contacts, calendar and notification access.

What independent reviewers found about Bee

  • TechCrunch (May 2026) found Bee's summaries useful, but the transcript left out parts of a conversation and speaker names often had to be filled in by hand. The reviewer was uneasy about how much access it asks for.
  • Tom's Guide (May 2026) wore Bee for a month and found it eased the mental load of parenting. They noted it keeps transcripts rather than raw audio and has a physical switch to turn it off.

Where Omi falls short

  • Battery is 10 to 14 hours, so it charges every night. Most rivals last days.
  • Write-ups happen in the Omi app on your phone. Away from your phone, Omi stores audio and syncs it later (in beta).
  • Listens for one language at a time, from 30+. English is the most accurate.
  • The free plan's 300 minutes a month covers about 10 minutes a day. Wearing it all day means Plus or Pro.

Which one should you get?

Choose Bee if

Choose Omi if

  • You want ChatGPT and Claude to know your day
  • You'd rather not give a retailer your conversations
  • You want SOC 2, HIPAA and open code
  • You need tasks in Todoist, Asana or ClickUp
