How we compared them
- Omi: what we see from daily use by our own team, and from our post-purchase survey of Omi buyers (November 2026).
- Other devices: each brand's published specs, prices and plans, checked November 3, 2026, plus independent hands-on reviews, linked at the bottom of each page. We haven't run our own lab tests on competitor devices, and we don't pretend to.
- What we compare: price and year-one cost, how you wear it, how recording starts, battery, what you get after a conversation, AI and app connections, and privacy.

Design and wear
Omi is a pebble about the width of a fingertip in a frosted white case. It hangs on a wheat chain, or pops into the wrist band; both come in the box. The NotePin S is a pill-shaped pin (17.4 g) that clips, pins, hangs or goes on a wristband; the Note Pro is a card that sticks to your phone.
Winner: Tie
How recording starts
Omi starts on its own and closes each conversation when the talking stops. Plaud starts when you press and hold. That one difference decides what ends up in your notes.
Winner: Omi
Battery
Omi lasts 10 to 14 hours and charges overnight. Plaud lists up to 20 hours of recording on the NotePin S and 50 on the Note Pro, with weeks of standby. One reviewer called the standby claims generous, but it still lasts far longer.
Winner: Plaud
AI and app connections
Omi connects to ChatGPT and Claude on every plan, so the assistant you already use knows what was said. Tasks go to Apple Reminders, Google Tasks, Todoist, ClickUp, Asana, Trello or Monday, and Google Calendar and Gmail sync on every plan. Plaud lists Google Calendar, Notion, Slack, Linear (preview) and Zapier, but not ChatGPT or Claude.
Winner: Omi
Privacy
Omi is SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and is open source, so anyone can check how it handles your data. Technical users can run it on their own servers. Plaud lists SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27701 and GDPR, which is a broader list of certifications.
Winner: Plaud on certifications, Omi on openness
One ordinary Tuesday: Omi vs Plaud
- 8:40 amA two-minute hallway chat about a deadline. Omi: captured, with the new date as a task. Plaud: only if you pressed record before it started.
- 11:00 amA planned client meeting. Both get it. This is the case button recorders are built for.
- 1:15 pmLunch, where a friend recommends a book. Omi: saved, and you can ask for it next week. Plaud: only if you recorded lunch.
- 6:30 pmAn idea on the drive home. Omi: say it out loud. Plaud: press the button, or reach for your phone while driving.
- 10:00 pm"What did I promise today?" Omi answers from everything it heard. Plaud: from the recordings you started.
What you get from Omi after a conversation

What independent reviewers found about Plaud
- TechRadar (Sep 2025) held 20 hours of recordings on a full charge over three weeks, but found the 300 free minutes ran out very quickly and that full features need a paid plan.
- Android Central (Jul 2025) found processing usually took 3 to 5 minutes, and about 10 minutes for a 30-minute call. They worked out year one on Unlimited at about $399 at the time.
- Tom's Guide (Apr 2025) found it accurate on unusual names when using the paid custom-terms list, with a couple of sorting mistakes.
- Phone calls need speakerphone on the NotePin, reviewers noted. The Note Pro, which sits on your phone, is Plaud's answer for calls.
Where Omi falls short
- Battery is 10 to 14 hours, so it charges every night. Most rivals last days.
- Write-ups happen in the Omi app on your phone. Away from your phone, Omi stores audio and syncs it later (in beta).
- Listens for one language at a time, from 30+. English is the most accurate.
- The free plan's 300 minutes a month covers about 10 minutes a day. Wearing it all day means Plus or Pro.
